For the last three Sundays, we’ve taken our little Sophie on a long walk to a Hundeplatz- a dog playground basically, which is a large, fenced area for dogs to train, play and socialize in.
This activity is at least three hours long, and so completely worth it! Why? Here’s a sneak peak:
Last Sunday was bright and sunny. Naturally, this brought out more people and more dogs! I was a bit anxious at first, but it turned out to be one of the nicest afternoons watching different dogs, strangers at first, getting to know each other. It didn’t matter what size, what breed, or what age. They were all there and they were all friendly! (Some more than others, if you know what I mean.)
Not only is this fun for Sophie, it also teaches her whom to trust. One of the things that has helped build that trust is how she runs and comes to us when she feels intimidated or threatened in some way. It’s a wonderful feeling that she finds safety just by being near us.
While that is important progress, we are still finding ways to make her learn to play with a ball or a stick. That’s a story for another post. In the meantime, I hope you go “Aww!” looking at these:
