On this day in 2014, a blue-eyed boy had made dinner for me. I was in creme-colored shorts, with a blouse that also doubled as a sweatshirt. I remember taking extra time to do my hair, draw my eyes, and use my special-occasion perfume.
He had painstakingly made chicken with a reduced tomato-thyme sauce, and potatoes on the side. He says he took all day to gather the ingredients as I type this out, from a small student town, he says, feeling like Sherlock Holmes to investigate and find out where to buy good quality chicken.
We talked. I can’t remember about what but we talked a lot. I remember him trying to make a card trick work which I didn’t think much of, but pretended to like anyway. Of course, now he knows how much I cared for it! It was a first date kind of comfort – not super comfortable, at least in comparison to today. But first date kind of sweet and butterflies-in-the-tummy.
The dessert was a little bit of a fail :
But good thing I’m not a dessert person. I was well fed and had great company – easy on the eyes, intelligent to talk to, perfect to hug, amazing to kiss… ok, I’m keeping it PG13.
That first date has led to today. We’re a family of four – diverse, happy and a little bit (lot) crazy! Just like that 26th September, this delicious meal was made by the husband today :
It’s a nice progression to sit in the kitchen of our home to enjoy this meal together, amidst the son’s fast defeating complaints soon to be won by sleep and the daughter resting like the queen she is on the couch.
Just like that rainy Manipal evening, this evening was perfect despite other plans (our babysitter/German godmother to K has the sniffles). Wholesome meal, great company, familiar, love, freedom and heart-filled – all wrapped in this soon-to-be-Autumn Hamburg cold after a long day at the office.
Thank you, universe! So much!
